ELA Curriculum

During Kindergarten, we will be learning how to recognize the letters of the alphabet and sounds that they make and use these skills and more to learn how to read and write!  Look below to find out what we are learning about now, skills to continue working on, and resources for more at home ELA work!

Current Standards

  • Using antonyms and synonyms to help with unknown words in a text

Standards to Continue Working on

  • Recognizing the parts of a book (front cover, back cover, title, title page)

  • Answering the 5 Ws about any story (Who, What, Where, When, Why)

  • Describing events of a story (Characters, Setting, Beginning, Middle, End)

  • Identify the job of an Author and Illustrator

  • Identifying the Main Topic and Key Details in a nonfiction text.

  • Comparing two Objects/Topics/Character Adventures from a text based on similarities and differences

  • Ask questions about unfamiliar words in a text and use context clues to determine the meaning of these unknown words

Skills to work on

  • Letter Recognition

  • Sight Words

  • Answering comprehension questions about texts read

  • Sounding out word and reading!
