Science/Social Studies Curriculum

During Kindergarten, we will be learning about weather, cultures of the world, how the world works, and more!  Look below to find out what we are learning about now, skills to continue working on, and resources for more at home science and social studies work!

Current Standards

SCIENCE

Compare the observable physical properties of different kinds of materials (clay, wood, cloth, paper, etc.) from which objects are made and how they are used.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Explain how people adapt to different weather conditions

SCIENCE

  • Compare and contrast weather daily

  • Use of the five senses in  exploring our environment

  • The four season and how the weather changes

  • Positional Words

  • Give examples of ways organisms move (straight, zigzag, round and round, back and forth, fast and slow.)

  • Compare characteristics of living and nonliving things

  • Compare different types of the same animal

  • Compare objects by observable physical properties (including size, color, shape, texture, weight, and flexibility).

SOCIAL STUDIES

  • Explain what makes a good friend

  • Explain why we follow/have rules

  • Explain similarities in themselves and others

  • Describe different kinds of feelings

  • Discuss how people change over time

  • Explain how life events change people

  • Explain the elements of culture (how people speak, how people dress, foods they eat, etc.).

  • Explain ways people use environmental resources to meet basic needs and wants (shelter, food, clothing, etc.)

  • Explain the difference in wants and needs

  • Identify physical features (mountains, hills, rivers, lakes, roads, etc)

  • Use maps to locate places in the classroom, school and home

  • Use globes and maps to locate land and water features.
